Option-O Lagom P80 Coffee Grinder

The Lagom P80 by Australian coffee gear manufacturer Option-O is equipped with the Mizen 80OM burrs, a flat 80 mm blind burr set suitable for both filter and espresso brewing and optimized for modern roasting.

Fully Redesigned Internals Compared to the P64

With the P80, Option-O had a clear objective: preserve the familiar form of the Lagom P64 while completely reengineering everything inside: The grind chamber, burr carrier, electronics, housing, and hopper are all newly designed, with the upper assembly now a single integrated piece. Gone are the loose springs and separate carrier bearings – cleaning and disassembly is now even simpler, intuitive and fool-proof, with reliability built-in by design. The P80 is driven by a 500W brushless DC motor, delivering nearly twice the torque density within the same compact footprint – without increasing noise.

Intuitive and elegant workflow

The P80 is optimized to deliver an intuitive and elegant grinding experience with near-zero retention. A redesigned knocker, tailored for the P80’s slanted chamber, makes clearing retention more effective. Static is significantly reduced without the need for RDT (Ross Droplet Technique), producing fluffy grounds with less mess. An auto purge function automatically ramps speed at the end of a grind cycle, keeping the chamber clean without user intervention.

The portafilter fork has been refined for better handling of 58mm portafilters, while remaining adaptable for grind cups in non-espresso use. Its flexible mounting system also leaves room for potential modular updates. Together, these refinements deliver a smoother, simpler workflow for daily use.

Auto-off and Purge Mode

To complement the quiet operation, a multifunction auto-off button was added to ensure intuitive operation and to avoid leaving the grinder running – a downside of a quiet grinder is that you might forget it’s on (this happened to us frequently with the P64!). A torque sensor detects when beans are fully ground and shuts the grinder off automatically.

A purge mode can be triggered either automatically or with a double press of the button. Even at top speed, the P80 remains remarkably quiet, fitting seamlessly into a home environment.

Zero Calibration Made Easy

Burr changes and zero calibration have never been easier: With the magnetic mounting system enabling quick burr swaps and the single-piece upper burr assembly for simple removal process, they also redesigned the zero calibration process to match. Replacing burrs now takes just minutes, and zero recalibration can be completed in seconds. A built-in safety zero limiter protects against accidental burr damage, but may be removed when you want full control. Simple, reliable, and intuitive.

All New Mizen Blind Burrs with Integrated PCS

At the heart of the P80 is a new Mizen 80OM burr set, designed to deliver juicy, sweet extractions with high clarity and complex-depth. Inspired by the benefits of bean crushing in PCS for increased uniformity, a unique crusher design has been integrated directly into the burrs themselves. An auger gently feeds the beans into the crusher before grinding, combined with adjustable RPM, allowing you to create more consistent particle sizes and better control over flavor expression.

Flexible Magnetic Burr Mount System

With the P80, Option-O departed from their past approach and employed a magnetic blind burr mounting system. The result is a quick, screw-free burr replacement process that still maintains repeatable precision. They refined the design with carefully balanced magnets and a high-tolerance carrier to hold the burrs securely – minimizing movement, preserving alignment, and engineered to be just right. The system is also compatible with two-screw burrs and 3-pin magnetic blind burrs designs, offering flexibility for those who want to experiment with alternative burrs.

Numerical RPM Dial for Flavor Control

RPM control is made easier with a new stepped RPM dial featuring a numerical scale. Adjustments are smooth, tactile, and quick, ranging from 300 RPM to 1700 RPM. Stepped positions provide repeatability without sacrificing the ability to fine-tune. Use lower RPMs to emphasize clarity and acidity, or higher RPMs to bring out deeper flavor and mouthfeel.

The motor of the Lagom P64 is designed for decades of service life, the burrs are coated and all parts are of very high quality. These grinders are built to last for a lifetime. Each unit is thoroughly checked and tested before shipping to ensure its quality. Occasional micro-scratches or cosmetic flaws (not noticeable from a distance of 10cm+) may occur during handling and final quality control.

This grinder is equipped with a 3-pole Swiss plug (type J).

The price includes the prepaid recycling charge (vRG) of CHF 2.31.
